Are All Hondas AWD?
Unlike its arch-rival, Toyota, Honda does not have as many AWD vehicles.
Only select Honda SUVs and trucks offer an all-wheel-drive trim, with none of the marque’s sedans or minivans having that drivetrain.

Honda Sedan with AWD
Unfortunately, Honda does not have all-wheel-drive sedans.
However, its arch-rival in the midsize segment, the Toyota Camry, offers AWD options.

#1 Honda HR-V
With the increasing demand for ever-efficient cars, the subcompact SUV sees increasing competition as Honda throws its own little sports utility, the HR-V, into the ring.
All-wheel drive isn’t standard across all Honda HR-V model years, but most of its trim levels have at least one AWD version.
The HR-V’s relative mediocrity in a strong field means competing models from one of the following automakers may be a stronger contender for your money:
#2 Honda CR-V
Honda has always provided compelling reasons to own the CR-V small SUV despite strong competition in the segment.
The CR-V typically offers plenty of interior room, strong fuel economy, and a well-insulated cabin regardless of the model year.
Not all Honda CR-Vs have all-wheel drive, but all trims have AWD as an option to ensure the all-weather drivetrain is available at all levels.
#3 Honda CR-V Hybrid
The hybridized version of the super-popular Honda CR-V has plenty of appeal, retaining many of the regular model’s inherent qualities.
All Honda CR-V Hybrids have all-wheel drive, costing marginally more than the gasoline-only model.
From 2023, Honda simply calls the CR-V Hybrid “Honda CR-V,” with hybrid powertrains standard across the top-level trims.
#4 Honda Passport
The Honda Passport is a midsize two-row SUV with a spacious interior and more off-road ability than its sports utility stablemates.
Its above-average ground clearance makes the Passport a legitimate outdoor vehicle for the family, and the available AWD means it can go almost anywhere regardless of weather conditions.
All-wheel propulsion is optional in the 2019 and newer Honda Passports, although the much-older version discontinued in 2002 had a four-wheel-drive system instead.
#5 Honda Pilot
Midsize SUVs with three rows are excellent family haulers, and the Honda Pilot is a strong pick with its spacious cabin and exceptional ride comfort.
Not all Honda Pilots have all-wheel drive, but every trim level since 2016 offers an AWD option so that every Pilot owner can benefit from the traction-enhanced drivetrain.

#6 Honda Ridgeline
Large pickup trucks are typically go-anywhere vehicles that double as workhorses.
Still, a midsize truck like the Honda Ridgeline, with a non-conventional unibody construction (unlike traditional truck-based ones), is more suitable as a comfortable on-road vehicle than an off-road champ.
Instead of a 4WD like in larger trucks, all 2021 and newer Honda Ridgeline models have an all-time all-wheel-drive system, enabling them to maintain good traction on dirt roads and slippery surfaces.
Older Honda Ridgelines are either FWD or AWD.
Is Honda AWD Good?
Asian car makers typically produce dependable vehicles, and Honda remains one of the more reliable among mainstream makes.
According to Consumer Reports, the following are Honda’s more reliable AWD vehicles:
- Honda Passport.
- Honda Ridgeline.
Although no makes and models can maintain 100% reliability, Honda drivetrains are some of the car maker’s least reported problems, with vibration on idle and during acceleration in the fourth-generation CR-V (2012-2016) the most notable.
