Hyundai Cars with Remote Start (13 Models: New & Used)
Hyundai’s remote starter allows owners to start the vehicle from the comfort of their homes or an approximate distance, warming or cooling the cabin ahead of time.
The following Hyundai cars, SUVs, and trucks can start remotely, although feature availability depends on the model year.
Do All Hyundais Have Remote Start?
The earliest Hyundais capable of starting their engines remotely were the 2011 Tucson and Santa Fe.
Fast-forward to today, and most of the latest Hyundai vehicles – save for some standard models – have acquired the remote start functionality, operable through the MyHyundai app with a Bluelink subscription.
For those shopping for a used car, check each Hyundai’s corresponding table to see which model years have the tech feature.
Hyundai Cars with Remote Start
#1 Hyundai Accent
Hyundai Accent sedans and hatchbacks up to the 2017 model cannot start its engine remotely.
However, the 2018 to 2022 Hyundai Accent sedans gained the remote start capability with an active subscription to the app-based Bluelink Connected Services.
2022 was the final production year for the extra-small Hyundai Accent.
#2 Hyundai Elantra
The small car segment has many strong picks, and Hyundai Elantra is one of them. It’s available with a gas-only or hybrid powertrain.
Older Elantras made in 2012 or earlier cannot perform remote start.
From 2013 to the latest Hyundai Elantra (except for 2014), the remote start functionality has been available primarily in the upper trims (like Limited).
An active Bluelink Connected Services subscription is necessary to remotely start the Elantra’s engine.
#3 Hyundai Sonata
Hyundai Sonata is a strong pick in the midsize sedan segment, competing against famous nameplates like Toyota Camry and Honda Accord.
2012 to 2015 Hyundai Sonata had a remote starter as optional equipment at most trim levels, except for the base and hybrid models.
From 2016 to the latest model, Bluelink-equipped Hyundai Sonatas can start their engines remotely through the MyHyundai app with an active Bluelink subscription.
The remote start function comes with climate control, so owners can warm or cool the car’s interior before getting in.
#4 Hyundai Genesis
The full-size, rear-wheel-drive Genesis is Hyundai’s most luxurious sedan, which stopped production after 2016.
Every 2015 and 2016 Hyundai Genesis sedan can perform the remote start function through the automaker’s Bluelink connectivity suite and an active subscription to the connected services.
Owners of a 2014 and older Hyundai Genesis cannot start the car’s engine remotely.
#5 Hyundai Veloster
Hyundai Veloster is a fun-to-drive, performance hatchback.
While the 2012 debutant cannot start its engine remotely, most 2013, 2015, and 2016 Hyundai Veloster models gained that functionality across the range, except for the 2016 Turbo.
2017 and newer Veloster hatchbacks can perform remote start with an active Bluelink subscription.
Hyundai SUVs with Remote Start
#6 Hyundai Venue
This little SUV replaces the now-discontinued Accent as Hyundai’s entry-level model.
Since debuting in 2020, the Hyundai Venue subcompact SUV has had remote-start in the upper trims – optional for 2020 and 2021 Venue SL and Denim; standard for 2022 and newer Limited.
The Remote Package of the Bluelink Connected Services allows owners to remote start the engine and control the AC or heater digitally.
#7 Hyundai Kona
The hotly contested extra-small crossover segment sees Hyundai Kona as one of the leading models.
Except for the 2018 debutant, most of 2019 to 2021 Hyundai Kona’s higher trims, like SEL, Limited, and Ultimate, had available remote-start.
The remote start functionality became standard for the Hyundai Kona from 2022 onwards, with the SEL, Limited, and N Line models getting the feature.
#8 Hyundai Tucson
Hyundai Tucson is one of the best value-for-money options in the small SUV class.
Every Hyundai Tucson between 2011 and 2014 had an optional remote start.
From 2015 to 2018, only a few Hyundai Tucson SUVs could start remotely – the Limited trim in 2015 and 2016; SEL Plus in 2017; SEL Plus and Limited in 2018.
The Hyundai Tucson compact crossover started getting the remote start feature as standard in more trims from 2019 onwards, with nearly every model, except for the base SE, able to start the engine remotely.
Owners of Bluelink-equipped Tucson SUVs can take advantage of the Connected Services’ Remote Package feature.
#9 Hyundai Santa Fe
Santa Fe is one of Hyundai’s larger SUVs, offering two rows of seats in a midsize body.
Most Hyundai Santa Fe models from 2011 to 2018 had the remote start functionality as an optional feature.
When Hyundai introduced the fourth generation in 2019, most Hyundai Santa Fe SUVs (2019-2023) gained the remote engine start feature as standard, including the SEL, Limited, Calligraphy, and XRT. Only the base SE cannot perform the function.
Bluelink-equipped Santa Fe sports utility can start the engine remotely as long as a relevant Connect Services subscription remains active.
#10 Hyundai Palisade
Hyundai Palisade is the Korean marque’s largest sports utility and a compelling pick among midsize SUVs with three rows of seating.
Nearly every 2020, 2021, and 2022 Hyundai Palisade enjoy the remote-start functionality, including the SEL, Limited, and Calligraphy, leaving only the base SE without the feature.
Buyers of 2023 or newer Hyundai Palisade need not choose as all SUVs can start remotely.
After the complimentary three-year Bluelink subscription, owners will need to renew to continue to start the Palisade remotely through the MyHyundai app.
Hyundai Truck with Remote Start
#11 Hyundai Santa Cruz
The compact truck segment doesn’t offer many choices, with the Santa Cruz being one of them.
Still, compact pick shoppers will be happy to find that most 2022 and 2023 Hyundai Santa Cruz come with standard remote-start, including the SEL, SEL Premium, Limited, and Night.
Only the base Santa Cruz SE does without the remote start feature.
Hyundai Electric Vehicles with Remote Start
#12 Hyundai IONIQ 5
IONIQ 5 made its debut in 2022 as Hyundai’s first EV built on an all-electric platform from the ground up.
Fortunately for shoppers of this EV, every IONIQ 5 since 2022 has a standard remote engine starter, although an active Bluelink subscription is necessary to access the function.
#13 Hyundai Kona Electric
Hyundai took the regular subcompact Kona crossover and turned it into an EV in 2019, and Kona Electric is the result.
Hyundai Kona Electric is compatible with Bluelink Connected Car Service, so owners can start the EV remotely, warming or cooling the interior ahead of time.
