Mazda Cars with Remote Start (8 Models: New & Used)

Remote start allows drivers to fire up the car’s engine from the comfort of their homes, warming or cooling down the vehicle’s interior ahead of time in extreme weather conditions.

The following Mazda cars and SUVs can start remotely, although feature availability depends on the model year.

Do All Mazdas Have Remote Start?

Most Mazda cars and SUVs gained remote start capability in 2008.

While remote engine start availability varies between older model years, all the latest Mazda models (from 2020 onwards) have the tech feature.

For those shopping for a used car, check each Mazda’s corresponding table to see which model years have the convenience feature.

Mazda Cars with Remote Start

#1 Mazda 3

Mazda 3 is a small car available in sedan and hatchback body styles.

The 2008-2010 and 2012 Mazda 3 models had an optional remote start, with most upper trims sporting the feature.

From 2014 to 2018, the small Mazda 3 gained standard remote start functionality, with only the base Sport trim getting it as optional.

Mazda 3 variants released in 2020 and beyond can perform remote start, but only via the MyMazda smartphone app with an active Mazda Connected Services subscription.

2019, 2013, 2011, and pre-2008 Mazda 3 cars cannot start the engine remotely.

#2 Mazda 6

Mazda 6 is a midsize sedan that the marque discontinued after 2021.

While remote-start was optional equipment for the upper trims of 2008 to 2010 Mazda 6 models, every Mazda 6 from 2011 to 2019 was available with the feature.

2020 and 2021 Mazda 6 can only start remotely with a Mazda Connected Services subscription.

In any case, only an automatic transmission-equipped Mazda can perform the function.

Mazda SUVs with Remote Start

#3 Mazda CX-3

Mazda CX-3 is an extra-small SUV that ceased production after 2021.

Every 2016 to 2019 Mazda CX-3 trim had an optional remote start, simplifying the selection for used SUV shoppers.

Meanwhile, owners of 2020 and 2021 Mazda CX-3 will need to subscribe to Mazda Connected Services to enable remote start functionality.

#4 Mazda CX-30

CX-30 is newer than the CX-3, debuting in 2020, and is currently Mazda’s smallest crossover in production.

Owners of any Mazda CX-30, made in 2020 or later, can only start the vehicle’s engine remotely with an active Mazda Connected Services, either through the three-year complimentary subscription or a paid extension of those services.

#5 Mazda CX-5

Mazda CX-5 is the Japanese automaker’s older compact SUV; CX-50 is the other.

Opting for a Mazda CX-5 produced between 2013 and 2019 is straightforward, as the remote start capability is available across the range.

Like newer Mazdas manufactured in 2020 or later, the CX-5 made in those years can start remotely with a Connected Services subscription.

#6 Mazda CX-50

From its 2023 debut onwards, every Mazda CX-50 small SUV can perform remote engine start with a complementary or paid Connected Services subscription.

#7 Mazda CX-9

CX-9 is Mazda’s largest and longest-running product in the midsize SUV segment.

Except for the 2007 debutant, all Mazda CX-9 trim levels from 2008 to 2019 had an optional remote start.

The remote engine start compatibility extends to every 2020 or newer Mazda CX-9 SUV, but owners need an active Mazda Connected Services subscription to perform the function.

Mazda Electric Vehicle with Remote Start

#8 Mazda MX-30

Mazda entered the EV foray with the MX-30 electric SUV in 2022.

Unlike older Mazdas with a fob-operated remote start, the MyMazda smartphone app allows drivers to charge, pre-warm, or pre-cool the MX-30 EV remotely.
